A pool is a structural project, not a decorative feature

The pool shell is a buried concrete tank under pressure from both sides: soil pressure outside and water pressure inside — and where groundwater is high, uplift pressure from below as well. So the structural design and reinforcement are not remote technical details; they decide whether the shell cracks in two years.

And that stage cannot be corrected. Any concrete or waterproofing problem means demolishing the finish to reach it.

Waterproofing is where the wrong saving happens

Waterproofing goes in before the finish and is completely hidden beneath it. That makes it the first place cost is cut, and the result appears a year or two later: continuous water-level loss, damp in the surround, or marks on an adjacent wall. Repair then costs many times the saving.

Filtration is sized to water volume

A common error is choosing pump and filter by surface area. What determines the system is water volume and the required turnover rate — a narrow deep pool can hold more than a wide shallow one. An undersized system means inadequately filtered water and higher chemical consumption to compensate.

Cooling, not heating

This is the core difference between UAE pools and those in temperate climates. Through summer, pool water reaches temperatures that remove any sense of refreshment. A chiller solves that; a heater helps in winter if you swim year-round — they are not alternatives to each other.

The surround is part of the project

Pool decking is wet daily, so slip resistance is a safety requirement, not a preference. Heat absorption matters equally — tile too hot for bare feet cancels midday use. And drainage must carry water away from the pool, not into it.

The plant room

It is positioned at design stage, not afterwards. Its location must allow technician access, adequate ventilation and drainage. A cramped or awkward plant room means deferred maintenance, and deferred maintenance becomes failure.
